404 fire kipper

Thanks Jurgen,

I was able to set ignition right..around 14deg on idle - best results. I hear all 6 cylinder for first time...sounds good. First drive is a fact :party :party :party . She is a slow lady for sure, but it\s ok.

Tschuss!

Any chance for dimensions of Auspuff Dichtungen??
I measured 41 mm diameter of the pipe, but this is outside. I still have not disassemble the exhaust

..I'll try to search them locally. 42 euro delivery to Bulgaria for just 8 euro Dichtungen ist zu viel.

Hello Jurgen,

I have exhaust leak there. I pretty sure that the gaskets are blown...any way I'll try to remove the pipes (bolts are turning somehow) and measure the dimensions.

Hello All,

It was fight. I wiggled the pipes may be an hour. At previous repair somebody add Auspuff Ziment and make my life miserable. Anyway the pipes are 42mm and I bought 2 gaskets 41x56x21mm...this is the only available as far as next size is 45mm inner diameter. I made new bushing in order to fit new gaskets, weld one hole (obviously from bad ground of welder of previous repair) add 150mm flex joint and new joint between mid-pipe and downpipe. Tomorrow I'll try to finish the job...too tired now.

yep...I really hate exhaust repair

Hello All,

Strange noise come from the timing chain. I opened the cover, check for ...something and it seems that plastic of the timing guide is stripped. Hm...any suggestion where to buy it?

Thanx a lot!

Gut 404!

Hello

Something like this. My is aluminum base and probably (this part is missing) some plastic slider....which parts should be in the oil pan now    .

Hi

of course is the most expensive and rare Gleitschiene ...alu base with 3 holes....which is hard to find...ahhhhggr

Tschüss

Hi Andrey,

for some of the old MB engines you will find complete kits including new timing chain and all parts, but I don't now if also for the M180. But as this motor is not only used on the unimog 404 the chance is good if you look on normal cars spare parts.
If you lost the slider now don't let the motor run as now the timing chain can skip by some chain links. In that case you ruin the motor

Thanx Jurgen,

The work slow down this weekend (I was in Greece for weekend). Tonight I was able to remove little 4 screw bolts bracket over valve cover. But the question stays:

I which direction should I try to remove the cover....thru front of engine or inside to the cabin?

Thanx for help!

Thanx Jurgen,

I remove the cover, but it\s really hard to find camshaft timing mark....it seems to at back of the timing gear?? How to see all that?

Thanx

Dear Andrey,

no, normally is on the camshaft behind the sproket at frontside a timinig mark for 1. zylinder.
