unser griechischer Unimog-Kollege spricht sicher von einem 404
der hat bereits schon 6 Zyl und sicherlich viel mehr Platz, nur sehe ich dadurch keine grosse Vorteile.

congratulations! Looking at your project it remembers me of my own idea, to use a strong hydro-static drive.
As you probably know, the 411/404 gearbox is limited to a maximum torque of about 120 Nm. Your TOYOTA engine at high speed is stronger than that and so able to destroy the drive train.
On the other hand side the gasoline engine torque is quite low at low speeds.
That brought me to the idea to have torque available as tolerable and required at any speed and any time. Therefore put an engine onto the chassis behind the driver’s seat that drives a hydraulic pump. Install a valve circuit limiting/controlling flow and pressure and a tiny but powerful hydraulic motor where the OM636 was before.
Probably it’s too late in your case to switch over to this concept. But maybe later you or someone else will take over my idea. However I’d like and will be able to support that project with my hydraulic expertise and networking.
To give you some idea of my concept, please find a sketch attached (sized for UNIMOG 416).

UuUNIMOG I suspected that there was a limit for the gearbox about torque & RPM
but i did not knew how much , so its 120 Nm the limit, thanks for the info.
the 404 maybe is more , i found some engines torques here...

Any way i promice my self to keep the engine less than 4000 RPM
Im not gona use my project for load weights , or for running fast
its gona be a (big) jeep style vehicle for easy ride & fun
so i think there is not so much pressure at gearbox with out load

but this is just a dreem for the moment

There are two extremes:
1. Max. torque at low speed (high stress only)
2. Max. power at high speed (high temperature and high stress)
Ad 1 I think 120 Nm is the limit for durability. If you exceed 120 Nm you take the risk of damage.
Ad 2 the limitation may be about 60 kW without any special means. If you cool the gearbox you may exceed it a little.
As far as I understand your intensions, you will go for off-road more than for high-way. So please look at the curve Torque over Speed for your TOYOTA engine and limit it at that speed, where the torque is about 120 Nm. That should be ok for the moment.

der 404.0 ist mit dem getriebe b werk mit 110 Ps und 186 Nm dauerfest unterwegs, im allgemeinen gehen die 404-fahrer von einer max belastung von 120 - 130 ps, 200 Nm und gut funzender füllung zwischen den fahrerohren aus.
eine zusätzliche ölkühlfläche ist bei dauerbetrieb in allen fällen anzuraten.
gut mog! justus.

bitte gestatte mir ein paar Gegenargumente zu Deinem Beitrag.
Wenn die 411/404-Getriebe mit allen von Dir aufgezählten Motorisierungen dauerfest wären, dürfte es keine Getriebe-Instandsetzungen geben (wenigstens nicht nach weniger als 10.000 Betriebsstunden).
Du schreibst selber, daß beim 404 zusätzliche Getriebeölkühlung sehr empfehlenswert ist (nämlich, um die Lebensdauerbeeinträchtigung etwas zu reduzieren!).
Dauerfest heißt, daß kein Lastereignis im Betrieb zu einer noch so winzigen Teilschädigung des Getriebes führt. Dann würde ein Getriebe folglich "ewig" halten. Bei Industriegetrieben gelten solche als dauerfest, die bis 10^6 Lastwechseln keine feststellbare Schädigung aufweisen. (Wie die Definition für Kfz-Getriebe aussieht, weiß ich leider nicht.) Jedenfalls ist die Belastungsgrenze im Kfz nicht so klar zu definieren wie z.B. in einer Druckmaschine und es wird hier mit (mittleren) Lastkollektiven gearbeitet. (Ich erinnere mich in diesem Zusammenhang an die Aussage eines meiner Professoren, daß die Golf I-Getriebe damals für eine Lebensdauer von nur 100.000 km konstruiert waren, also eher nicht dauerfest.)
Das 411-Getriebe wurde konstruiert für Drehmomente vom Dieselmotor bis 100 Nm und Eingangs-Drehzahlen deutlich unter 3000 min^-1. Falls es damals schon Berechnungsmethoden für die Dauerfestigkeit gegeben haben sollte, oder man das Getriebe bewußt überdimensioniert hatte, könnte man für den 411 gewissermaßen von Dauerfestigkeit sprechen.
Doch beim 404.1 kann man nicht mehr davon ausgehen. Bereits bei 127 Nm und 4500 min^-1 gibt es thermische Probleme mit entsprechendem forcierten Verschleiß. Eine Freigabe des 411-Getriebes für den 404.1 kann ich mir nur vorstellen vor dem Hintergrund eines auf den Armee-Einsatz getrimmten Lastkollektivs und des geringen Drehmoments des Benziners bei niedrigen Drehzahlen.
Daß heute sogar einige verdieselte 411/404-Getriebe mit 200 Nm und mehr unterwegs sind, kann nicht als Nachweis für eine diesbezügliche Dauerfestigkeit gelten. Dazu fehlt jede statistische Grundlage.
Aber vielleicht hat jemand die Auslegungsberechnungen oder kann das Getriebe nachrechnen?
Übrigens: Lebensdauerangaben beziehen sich niemals auf einen einzelnen Gegenstand und werden deshalb meist auch nicht garantiert. Lebensdauerangaben sind rein statistische Werte. Z. B. ist die t10-Lebensdauer so definiert: 10% der Produkte fallen vor Erreichen der t10-Lebensdauer aus, 90% überleben diese (teilweise bis zu einem Vielfachen derer).

looking at the graph "power and torque over speed" you have found, I'd limit speed to 3000 rpm (in order to protect the gearbox!). However, I wouldn't expect very satisfying driving, because the torque decreases from 2500 to 3000 rpm. A Diesel engine would have been the better choice for your purposes, or at least a gasoline engine with increasing torque in that speed range.

here comes a translation of what I answered to Justus above. It will answer (hopefully) at least some of your latest questions.
If the 411/404 gears with all motorisations enumerated by you (Justus) were long-term reliable, there might be no gear repairs (at least not after less than 10,000 working hours).
You (Justus) write that it is very recommendable to cool additionally the 404 gear (in order to reduce the life time expectancy somehow!). Long-term durability is the case, when no load event leads to any partial damage of the gear. Then consequently a gear would last "forever". With industrial gears those count as long-term durable which do not show any noticeable damage within 10^6 load changes. (How the definition looks like for vehicle gear, unfortunately, I do not know.) In any case, the load limits are not so clear to define in vehicles. For example in a printing machine it would be much easier. In vehicles it is worked with (mean) load assumptions. (I remember the statement of one of my professors, that the VW Golf I gear was sized to have a lifetime of 100,000 km only, so rather not too long.)
The 411 gear was designed for torques by a diesel engine to 100 Nm and input speeds essentially less than 3000 min ^-1. If, at those times, there should have been calculation methods for the long-term durability, or the gear had been oversized, one could speak for 411 as it was long-term durable.
However, with 404.1 it is different. At 127 Nm and 4500 min ^-1 there are thermal problems resulting in recognisable wear. A release of the 411 gear for 404.1 I can imagine only, taking lower load assumptions in army application into account and the low torque of the gasoline engine at low speeds.
The fact that some 404 gears are driven by 200 Nm and more today cannot proof any long-term durability. For that every statistical basis is absent.
By the way: Life expectancy data never refer to a single object and, therefore, are very rarely guaranteed. Life expectancy data are purely statistical values. E.g., the B10 life span is defined as follows: 10% of the products fail before, 90% of them survive (partially up to a multiple of it).

With industrial gears those count as long-term durable which do not show any noticeable damage within 10^6 load changes. (How the definition looks like for vehicle gear, unfortunately, I do not know.) In any case, the load limits are not so clear to define in vehicles. For example in a printing machine it would be much easier. In vehicles it is worked with (mean) load assumptions. (I remember the statement of one of my professors, that the VW Golf I gear was sized to have a lifetime of 100,000 km only, so rather not too long.)
The 411 gear was designed for torques by a diesel engine to 100 Nm and input speeds essentially less than 3000 min ^-1. If, at those times, there should have been calculation methods for the long-term durability, or the gear had been oversized, one could speak for 411 as it was long-term durable.
However, with 404.1 it is different. At 127 Nm and 4500 min ^-1 there are thermal problems resulting in recognisable wear. A release of the 411 gear for 404.1 I can imagine only, taking lower load assumptions in army application into account and the low torque of the gasoline engine at low speeds.
The fact that some 404 gears are driven by 200 Nm and more today cannot proof any long-term durability. For that every statistical basis is absent.
By the way: Life expectancy data never refer to a single object and, therefore, are very rarely guaranteed. Life expectancy data are purely statistical values. E.g., the B10 life span is defined as follows: 10% of the products fail before, 90% of them survive (partially up to a multiple of it).

OM617 looks not good idea , ( 5 cyl and very stong for the gear box)
what about the others ?
and what about 411 & 404 bellhousing ?
Are they same (at rear mount on the gearbox)
And what about the frond mout , is only the starter side or there are other differences too ?

of course it isn't a deterministic thing with the different engines. But any 2,4 l Diesel engine would be a pretty good solution for what we could try (and error). If it doesn't cost too much we/you should try with a little risk.
